I’M BUSY; I HAVE NO TIME FOR GOD!

When the storm destroys the house, many of us blame the engineer or builder: “It was badly made!” In reality, it crumbled down due to our continual lack of attention. The return of the Lord is certain but no one knows the time. It will not only be surprising but quick. Therefore God’s Word invites us to be ready and prepared for the coming of the Lord. Jesus gives the examples of Noah and Lot and the unpreparedness of the people at their time.

A priest on his way back from a village church after Sunday mass, noticed one of his parishioners in a field working with a group of children. Noticing that they were not present at mass, the priest questioned him. He replied, “I was busy; I had no time. And the kids did not have catechism, so I asked them to join me.” For the man, his work was more important to him than the holy mass.

What about you? Do you have time for God? Our life, time, energy and opportunity are God’s gifts to us. Yet, how do we use them? The resources, opportunities and time that we have at our disposal should not be wasted or spoiled. Only if we are watchful and careful in doing the right thing in the right way, will we be like the faithful servant of the gospel. There will come a time when our possessions, property, riches, money, or education will be worth nothing; it is instead the good deeds done, the care and compassion shown, and the time spent at the feet of Jesus that will take us to our home in heaven.

Till Noah entered into the ark, and till Lot left Sodom, all went on with their routine enjoyment being negligent and oblivious to all the divine warnings and exhortations. The only way to be ready for the end of the world and Jesus’ final coming is to lose our lives for the love of Jesus (Lk 17:33) Let us then be watchful and use our God-given time, opportunity, and with grace, walk to our heavenly inheritance.

Response: The heavens declare the glory of God
