FAITHFUL AND WISE!
A man hired a night watchman to guard his property. He was faithful and vigilant. One day he approached his master who was preparing to travel and says, “Master, please do not travel tonight. In my sleep last night, I dreamt that the plane in which you were traveling crashed mid-air.” The master postpones his journey heeding to his servant’s advice. To his surprise the plane crashes as his servant had predicted. What should be the reaction of the master?
The master dismissed the servant though he was grateful for saving his life. He said you were employed to be vigilant but you slept and dreamt. The servant is assigned the duty of keeping watch.
In the parable of today’s Gospel we have two types of managers described.
1. Faithful and wise manager
2.Unfaithful and unwise manager
There are a few things to be noted regarding these two managers. They were slaves or servants, men under the Lord’s will entirely. They were possessed by the Lord completely and their lives depended on doing everything the Lord wanted. It was sheer generosity of the master to appoint them as managers of all that he possessed. What an amount of trust the master had placed on them?
The faithful servant was found doing what was expected of him. He remained vigilant and watchful. The unwise manager proved to be a slave of his flesh. He was found doing what he wanted rather than doing what his master wanted him to do. The master rewards the faithful manager and makes him master of all that he possesses. One who has conquered his flesh has conquered the good will of the master. What attracted the wrath of the Lord? Deliberate sin. In spite of knowing the will of the master neither did he prepare himself, nor did he do the will of the master.
Prayer: Lord, help me today, to do Your will and remain faithful to You. Amen.
