DISCIPLESHIP:
CALL TO BE FAITHFUL, NOT SUCCESSFUL!
Faithfulness
and truth are the most sacred excellences and endowments of the human mind.”
Being faithful in the smallest things is the way to gain, maintain, and
demonstrate the strength needed to accomplish something great. Faithfulness is
not doing something right once and for all, but doing something right over and
over. The parable in the Gospel asks us to be ready for the unexpected hour by
being faithful.
What
is faithfulness according to Jesus? It’s keeping one’s word, promise, and
commitments no matter how tough or difficult it gets. Faithfulness is a key
character trait of God and one that he expects of us. Fortunately God also
gives the grace and strength to remain faithful and he expects us to make good
use of the gifts and graces he gives us. Those who know their master’s wishes
(like his disciples) but are found misbehaving when he returns will be severely
punished. Those who do not know (non-disciples, outsiders) will still be
punished for doing wrong but their punishment will be lesser. Let us not
pretend to be ignorant and just skip our duties and responsibilities. Faith in
the full measure makes us ‘faithful’ and when we are faithful, people trust us
and ‘entrust’ us. Are we faithful to God and ready to give him an account of
our stewardship?
Prayer:
Enable us Lord to be always faithful, because in faithfulness is our strength. Help
me to seek You always and to always be prepared for You when You come. Jesus, I
trust in You. Amen.
