________
First Reading
1 Tim 2:1-8
Beloved:
First of all, I urge
that supplications, prayers,
intercessions, and thanksgivings
be made for all people,
for kings and all who are in high positions,
that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life,
godly and dignified in every way.
This is good, and it is pleasing
in the sight of God our Saviour,
who desires all people to be saved
and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
For there is one God,
and there is one mediator between God and men,
the man Christ Jesus,
who gave himself as a ransom for all,
which is the testimony given at the proper time.
For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle
(I am telling the truth, I am not lying),
a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
I desire then
that in every place the men should pray,
lifting holy hands without anger or quarrelling.
________
Responsorial Psalm
Psalm 91:1–2, 3–4, 5–6, 10–11 (R. 2b)
My refuge, my stronghold, my God in you I trust.
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High,
and abides in the shade of the Almighty,
says to the Lord, “My refuge,
my stronghold, my God in whom I trust!”
My refuge, my stronghold, my God in you I trust.
He will free you from the snare of the fowler,
from the destructive plague;
he will conceal you with his pinions,
and under his wings you will find refuge.
His faithfulness is buckler and shield.
My refuge, my stronghold, my God in you I trust.
You will not fear the terror of the night,
nor the arrow that flies by day.
nor the plague that prowls in the darkness,
nor the scourge that lays waste at noon.
My refuge, my stronghold, my God in you I trust.
Upon you no evil shall fall,
no plague approach your tent.
For you has he commanded his angels
to keep you in all your ways.
My refuge, my stronghold, my God in you I trust.

Gospel Acclamation
Ephesians 4:15
Alleluia, alleluia!
Speaking the truth in love,

who is the head, into Christ.
Alleluia!
________
Gospel
John 8:31–42
At that time:
Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him,
“If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples,
and you will know the truth,
and the truth will set you free.”
They answered him,
“We are offspring of Abraham
and have never been enslaved to anyone.
How is it that you say, ‘You will become free’?”
Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you,
everyone who practises sin is a slave to sin.
The slave does not remain in the house for ever;
the son remains for ever.
So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
I know that you are offspring of Abraham;
yet you seek to kill me
because my word finds no place in you.
I speak of what I have seen with my Father,
and you do what you have heard from your father.”
They answered him, “Abraham is our father.”
Jesus said to them,
“If you were Abraham’s children,
you would be doing the works Abraham did,
but now you seek to kill me,
a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God.
This is not what Abraham did.
You are doing the works your father did.”
They said to him, “We were not born of sexual immorality.
We have one Father—even God.”
Jesus said to them,
“If God were your Father, you would love me,
for I came from God and I am here.
I came not of my own accord, but he sent me.”
